The construction of the future exposition and exhibition center of the GIM will be completed by the end of 2025, its opening is scheduled for 2026, GIM Director General Alexei Levykin said at a press conference. Construction began in 2023 near the Novodevichy cloister on the instructions of the President of Russia.
«Today we want to present you the results that we have achieved and to present the final solution of the exposition that is planned in the exhibition center. Many people could familiarize themselves with this decision at the jubilee exhibition, which was opened in Moscow in August 2024 and was dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Novodevichy Convent. Very many structural, exposition, design solutions will be realized on a larger scale… I may add that the end of 2025 — is the completion of the active part of the construction work And the commissioning — it is already 2026. Because it will take time to organize the exposition, activate all the security systems» — said Alexei Levykin.
General Director of the GIM noted that the exhibition center will include almost the entire collection of the Historical Museum, related to the history of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Orthodox art. Viewers will be able to see icons in precious frames, books for divine services, shrouds, church utensils. The exposition of about 2000 square meters is dedicated to the unique history of the Novodevichy Convent and the history of Russia, starting from the first half of the XVI century, and is part of the complex of measures to preserve the historical appearance of the ensemble of the monastery, as well as in the list of events timed to the 500th anniversary of the unique monument of world architecture.
The press conference also added that within the framework of the work of the center will be created a depository for art and historical objects, there will be rooms for workshops, lectures and other cultural events.
