On November 23, 2024 at the Monastery of the Royal Passion-Bearers in the Ganina Yama tract in Yekaterinburg, a solemn ceremony was held to unveil a monument to Nikolai Alexeevich Sokolov, an investigator in special cases, who from 1919 investigated the murder of the family of Emperor Nicholas II and the Alapaev martyrs.
Bust on the pedestal is installed to the right of the Tsar's temple, at the right entrance to the gallery, girdling «heart» cloister — mine number 7. The opening of the monument is timed to the 100th anniversary of the death of N.A. Sokolov.
The ceremony took place at the end of the funeral service in the Tsar's church, at which requiem prayers were offered for the late N.A. Sokolov.
«Today we pay a kind of tribute to truth and honor righteousness to a man who himself, perhaps without initially wishing it, became such a co-tenant with the holy royal family. He was entrusted to investigate the murder of the sovereign's family, — said Metropolitan Eugene of Ekaterinburg and Verkhotursk, addressing the participants of the ceremony. — Nikolai Alekseevich spent many days, nights here, on this place where you and I are, fulfilling his professional duty, and fulfilling it honestly. He perceived this service, the last service to the sovereign — the discovery of the truth about their murder, about the their honest remains, their relics. He devoted his short but very kind life to this. Even when the investigation was no longer possible and he was forced to leave Ekaterinburg and Russia, he continued this ministry. And he took this work as his life's work. And on this path he laid down his life.
The Vladyka reminded the audience of a passage from the Gospel, in which Christ says that all secret things will be revealed. «The Lord will sooner or later reveal the truth. There is nothing hidden that will not become manifest. And all the secrets that Nikolai Sokolov took away with him, and all the secrets that he did not recognize, sooner or later we will all recognize them, — said the Vladyka, noting how important it is to remain Christians in such a situation. — It is very important that on the way, while we recognize them (secrets — ed.), while we live, that we take care of each other in a Christian way, that we do not fight with each other for who has a greater degree of knowledge of the truth, who is closer to the truth, and who is further from the truth, who knows less about what happened. It is better to keep, to cherish one another until the Lord reveals all things».

Metropolitan Eugene thanked the authors and creators of the monument, all those whom the Lord had put on his heart to immortalize the memory of Nikolai Sokolov on this place.
The opening ceremony of the monument was attended by its creators — Director of PFC «Iriston» R.S. Kokoeva, representative of the Orthodox public movement «Christian Good Deeds» S.Y. Fedorov and representative of the FKU «Uralupravtodor» K.V. Chirkunov, who noted the contribution to the creation of the monument by A.V. Zhukov.
The sculpture was created by the author of the sculpture — V.V. Zhukov.

After the opening of the monument, Vladyka Eugene read the text of greetings to the participants of the ceremony, sent by descendants of N.A. Sokolov, who live in France. The message was delivered by the head of the center «Destiny of Dynasty» V.A. Wiener.

«From France, where the investigator Sokolov and his wife found refuge, where Sokolov passed away, their descendants — grandchildren and great-grandchildren — join the commemorative event that you are holding today in Yekaterinburg, in the place where he led the investigation of the murder of the royal family. We remain faithful to his memory and stand in solidarity with the epitaph on his grave: "Your truth — eternal truth"» — says, in particular, in the message of Sophia and Nikolai Rylon, grandchildren of N.A. Sokolov.

The government of Admiral A.V. Kolchak in 1919 instructed the investigator for especially important cases of the Omsk district court N.A. Sokolov (1882-1924) to reveal the mystery of the death of the family of Emperor Nicholas II.
In the Introduction N.A. Sokolov also investigated the circumstances of the death of the Emperor's brother, Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich, the sister of the Empress, Grand Duchess Elizabeth Fyodorovna, and other sufferers tortured in Yekaterinburg, Perm, and near Alapaevsk. N.A. Sokolov would write a detailed book about it in a foreign land and publish it in Paris shortly before his untimely death.
