His Holiness Patriarch Porfirios of Serbia, who is in London with members of the sacred entourage for tomorrow's enthronement of the Most Reverend Mr. Nectarius as Bishop of Great Britain and Ireland, today visited the Court Chapel of St. George the Great Martyr at Royal Windsor Castle.
The Head of the Serbian Orthodox Church was welcomed by the exalted Bishop Mr. Christopher Coxworth, Elder of the Royal Chapel, and conveyed the personal greetings of His Majesty the British King Charles III. The Patriarch presented the host with an icon of St. George the Great Martyr, and Bishop Christopher responded with a monograph on the Blessed Virgin Mary which he himself had written.
St. George's Chapel at Windsor is part of the college of the same name. It was built in 1348. by order of King Edward III it is considered a masterpiece of medieval English architecture. The chapel contains the third largest stained glass window in England and is particularly notable for having the largest number of British kings buried there, including Queen Elizabeth II.
