His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch Mr.. Porfirije received today at the Patriarchal Palace in Belgrade Mrs. Olga Lyubimova, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, together with Mr. Porfirije. Nikola Selakovic, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Serbia.
His Holiness Patriarch Mr. Porfirije warmly welcomed the distinguished guest, emphasizing that the spiritual ties of the two peoples, based on common origin and common Orthodox faith, certainly precede cultural ties and aspirations, all of which have been strengthened over the centuries by common historical trials, but ultimately by joint victories. - I realize that even today, thanks to similar or almost identical historical experiences, Russian and Serbian cultures face similar problems, find similar solutions and strive for the same goals. At the same time, it is fundamentally important that modern culture does not neglect the spiritual heritage and historical origins, but that the current oppression is based on these foundations, which provides a stable reference point of identity, which is a fundamental prerequisite for the survival and development of every nation, - emphasized Patriarch Porphyrius.
