On Saturday, November 16 this year. A scientific symposium dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the autocephaly of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church and the 35th anniversary of the restoration of the Lublin-Chelm Orthodox Diocese was held in the auditorium of Sedlc University. The event was held under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda.
The symposium was preceded by the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the above. jubilees. The exhibition presented a number of historical, social and cultural aspects related to the presence of the Orthodox Church in Poland and the Lublin Voivodeship.
Representatives of the Church hierarchy, clergy, local government, university administration, representatives of science, local media and the Orthodox community of Sedlce gathered in the university hall.
On behalf of the Marshal of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, Magdalena Salata, head of the Siedlce branch of the department, spoke. During the speech, the Lublin-Chelm Orthodox Diocese was presented with a commemorative medal "For Mazovia", dedicated to people and institutions contributing to the economic, cultural and social development of Mazovia.
Then, on behalf of the Mayor of Sedlce, City Secretary Joanna Skolimowska-Spura spoke. The historical presence of the Orthodox community in Sedlce was emphasized and a commemorative
memorial was presented engraving. The Secretary also touched on the current pastoral activities of the Orthodox parish in Sedlce.
Welcoming remarks on behalf of the Rector of the University of Sedlce were addressed by the Dean of the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences, Dr. Hab. Mažena Stańska, Prof. UvS. Satisfaction with the possibility of joint organization of the symposium was expressed and the openness of the university to the needs of the Orthodox Church was emphasized.
The symposium in Sedlce was co-organized by the Orthodox Diocese of Lublin-Chelm, the Diocesan Centre for Orthodox Culture FRONTIDA and the local government of Mazowieckie Voivodeship, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
The symposium featured nine speakers. The culmination of the event was a concert of Orthodox music performed by the Male Ensemble of Orthodox Church Music from Lublin under the direction of Deacon Ivan Natyazhko.
